Sources & Methodology

How we research, source and review our coverage — and where its limits are.

Body-shape classification

Our body-shape coverage uses the five-category system (apple, pear, hourglass, rectangle, inverted triangle) based on proportional relationships between bust, waist and hip measurements. Prevalence figures come from North Carolina State University's SizeUSA body-scan study, which measured 6,318 women. Waist-to-hip ratio thresholds reference World Health Organization guidance.

Limitations

Styling recommendations are general guidance based on proportional balance, not prescriptive rules — individual preference and comfort come first. Body-shape content is about clothing and styling, not health or medical advice; for any health question, consult a qualified professional.
